Hey guys, im needing some help with mating in a new way to what im used to.

Basically, im needing to mate a "seat" inside a large dia pipe on an angle (Above the opening on one side and below on the opposite) that will be a seat for something else to slide into.

Im trying to get the image to the right mated inside the image to the left but on an angle (54 degrees) like the construction line.

Next post will be some images of exactly what i want to do

can anyone shed some light on the best way to do this?

As promised actual images of what I'm trying to achieve

I might be talking out of my bottom end:friendly_wink: But can you position the oval above the part at the correct angle and then mate it to the top of the tee with an offset.

Hey Clive, cheers for your reply. its also getting the oval to mate in the centre of the pipe. its a tricky one. i cant attach the files for some reason in case anyone wanted a play

Hello. Look at this https://mega.nz/#!ZUtC0DwD!wI9D63TNERNkIDvmU2mFkFfZ_XN2eqrSDwykQQe 80d4

I made mates using 2d sketch references

Sorry try again now. https://mega.nz/#!ZUtC0DwD!wI9D63TNERNkIDvmU2mFkFfZ_XN2eqrSDwykQQe 80d4 (https://mega.nz/#!ZUtC0DwD!wI9D63TNERNkIDvmU2mFkFfZ_XN2eqrSDwykQQe 80d4)

Its solidworks 2013 version

Create a plane at the angle then create sketch or extrude on this plane using the convert entity's intersection tool.

To create the plane draw a sketch on the front plane with line at the angle and location you want. See pic1
Then create plane from Reference geometry option using the angled line as first reference and front plane as second. See pic2

Next select the new plane and create sketch on it. Use the Convert entity's tool and select the intersection tool. see pic3
Then you can offset the result and extrude.

Jazzcnc is giving a correct solution. You can use planes or construction geometry to align parts in order to mate. Create reference geometry to either create planes or use the geometry directly to orientate your parts.

I am assuming this is an assembly you are trying to mate and not an in-context body? If stuck come back and I will show you how.

Hi all by the way, new member and CSWE for reference. ;) Always glad to help with anything SW related.
