Hi, I have spend some time reading about breakout boards.from ehat I have read they dont like windows 10 much and 64bit systems even less. So is this the same for ethemet smooth steppers, ESS.i have seen some state that they will work with windows 10 but there is nothing said about will they work on a 64bit system.and will the breakout board be able to understand the signals from the ESS if windows is 64bit.anyone know the answer, does it all work on a windows 10 64bit system, or must it be a 32bit system.thanks michael

A breakout board is a device that "breaks out" the wires coming from a motion controller or parallel port into terminals to allow easy connection to your devices.
As such, it has nothing to do with the operating system.
What doesn't work with Windows 10 (or 64 bit OS's) is the parallel port driver in Mach3.
But, Mach3 itself works in Windows 10, provided you use an external motion controller like a Smoothstepper, or one of the 20-30 alternatives.

So, if you want to use Windows 10, you need a motion controller, but you can use just about any breakout board you want with that motion contoller.

Michael,

Yes, Smoothsteppers will work with windows 10.

The only warning is to switch off all the windows updates when using the CNC machine. Windows tries to download updates and apply them at the worst moment. Not so much of an issue with Desktops where you are working through the ethernet port but on laptops that have WiFi too.
