Long story but I was given this from a friend, he got it while clearing out an old mans garage. There were no other parts with it, and no indication as to what it had been used for.

There are some other small parts in a wooden box, like a small spring loaded tailstock and a handful of what looks like Myford collets ? It looks to originally have been 3 ph, but now looks like someone has done a home job to convert it to single ph as there appears to be wiring that would suggest someone has added a capacitor to it. Anyway, if anyone could shed some light on it I would be grateful.

Sorry the pics are the wrong way round.

Looks like a motorised head to fit onto a tool and cutter grinder to convert it into a cylindrical grinder.
Google motorised head tool & cutter grinder for more information. Quite rare and sort after, should do well on Ebay if you are selling it.

I have taken it apart today to see if I can find any more info. The small 3 jaw chuck is actually on a 5c collet adapter. If you look at the 2nd pic, you can see the "hand tightening" device on the opposite end to the chuck, it has a drawbar fitted and when slackened off a few turns, the chuck can be knocked out. This then leaves the ability to put any of the collets I found in the box in and tightened up by hand. These are the collets I thought were maybe Myford collets but now I'm sure they are 5c. This now leads me to believe it was maybe some sort of mini lathe, maybe a jewellers lathe?

The quest continues:numbness:
