Hi to all

I am mark, new to cnc machines but I am wanting learn to program them and am looking to buy a small bench to cnc lathe. Where is a good place to start?

Thanks

Mark

Mark, welcome to the forum...

Are you looking to buy something off the shelf, or are you prepared to do most of the work yourself? Small ex-school CNC lathes such as the Denford and Boxfords or the smaller Starturns come up on eBay from time to time but will usually need new controllers to replace the proprietary/BBC computer products originally fitted. As luck would have it there is a Starturn on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Starturn-4-CNC-lathe_W0QQitemZ110425173901)right now...

Alternatively something like a small EMCO or Unimat can be CNC'd with some thought.

Most older bench lathes wil be much harder, but there have been examples of applying CNC to Southbends, Atlases, Myfords etc.

Whats your budget?
