View Full Version : Weird NC Studio behaviour after manual tool change

Hi there,

Cutting some increasingly complex stuff on my 4x4' chinese machine. Lots of fun.

However, NC Studio doesn't respond to the tool change commands in my Gcode (generated via MeshCam), so i've just paused a job after 5 hours of roughing, returned to the job x/y/z zero point, switched out my 6mm endmill for the 3mm, jog the z down to the work surface, I zero Z in the software, end of the 3mm is resting on the surface where the 6mm rested, so i figure that's indexed now...

I restart from the Tool Change line number. Spindle spins up, then z rises all the way up and sets off the limit switch. That's rising the full 150mm travel of the Z, way more than the approx 10mm difference in absolute-z I introduced during the tool change.

I've tried starting a few hundred lines earlier. Any attempt to resume the program (so far) causes this Z-up error.

Might this be a generic and easily rectified newbie issue? Or is this an NC Studio specific gremlin requiring the wisdom of someone else who's struggled through this wonky bit of software?

Any ideas MyCNCUkers?

I also use NCstudio.

It's not that I like it, but it's what came with the machine.

But mine works fine, I change tools with it.

Just give the tool another number and it changes.
