Hi all..
Bought a 3 axis cnc router which was running Mach 3. Pretty sure the licence was not a proper one and an error came up about the licence yesterday and Mach stopped working. When we realized the licence was not valid, we bought a new one, deleted the old, popped the new one into the Mach3 folder, fired up Mach and it now shows our licence as valid and in our name. But the reset button still does not work.!

help...

Save the licence file somewhere safe, then download a real version of Mach3, install it, and copy the licence file back. Some of these pirate/hack copies of Mach3 have some funny internal problems. At least start with a clean, known good, copy, and try again. After all, you've paid for it!

Hi Neale..

Thanks for the advice, we suspected that the copy of Mach we have is not quite 'right'.. No problem downloading the latest version (3.043 yes?) but I may struggle to set up the auto-tool zero.. I was shown how to do it a while back, but have forgotten now.. Do you think the xml file will keep the settings for us?

Yes, keep the XML - that's where all settings are stored. Be aware that a new install will overwrite the whole Mach3 folder structure, so copy files somewhere else and copy them back after re-installing. In fact, taking a "safety" copy of the while folder structure, just in case, is a good plan.

If you have a touch-off device, then almost certainly there will be some custom macros. Under the "macros" folder, there will probably be a folder with your machine name. Save that and put it back in the same place after re-installation.

There might be a custom screenset as well - look for files with the extension .set or .sset. This is where any changes to buttons or screen layout to drive the torch-off function will be defined. Again, save and restore afterwards.

Good luck!

The latest version of mach3 is actually 3.066, but this version will not work with the latest version of windows 10 (1803). The workaround is to install version 3.062, and then apply a patch to make it work.

You can read about it here :- https://www.cnczone.com/forums/cnc-router-parts/360698-cnc.html

Actually, the version available at machsupport.com is the patched version of 3.043.062. In Artsoft's infinite wisdom, they label it 3.043, and make no mention of the patch.

Thanks guys..
Been real busy last couple of days but am now on it..
Backed up entire Mach3 folder, downloaded 3.043 version and we are using XP so not an issue with any patches.. Have worked out which screen set file is being used..
Only real concern is setting up the touchplate but am guessing that xml file will retain the correct settings and as you mentioned Neale, there are 2 macros we can see so will have to pop those back into the right place..
How do I know which xml file is being used?
Any idea about what to do with M6 files? There are a couple in a backup folder here so am guessing they are something to do with it...

That's 'cos they're Lacklustre Slackers since Art Fennerty sold the farm ;-)
