Hi
I have a previous thread which I will update shortly

I have constructed a desktop CNC

I have a power supply with chinese characters above the 2 terminals
I need to connect it to the spindle which has 2 wires black and red
Wires from the power supply has a foil sheath.

1. Will I do damage if I connect the wrong way around?
2. How can I check which way to wire spindle. (black and red)
3. Power supply is connected and has power
4. Is it a good idea to earth spindle body?

Many thanks

Making the assumption you're talking about a 2 phase DC spindle, in theory, the spindle is just a motor - so which way up you connect it would determine which direction it spins. Without more information, I can't say for certain, but I wouldn't expect there to be a problem if it was connected with the opposite polarity.

Always a good idea to earth the spindle, but be sure to avoid earth loops.

Hi Andy
Yes 2 phase DC. I had an idea wrong wiring would change direction. I've had one apart, no electronics inside. Also read about earth loops. Signal electronics and electrics are in 2 separate metal cases. Also graphite rings around heavy voltage wiring.
Progress report: Mechanicals complete except for minor tuning of linear rails on Y axis. Electrics 98% complete. To do list. Touch up scratched metalwork, Download software onto computer, program Uno card. Commission and decide on engraving software. Looking at Desktop V Carve.

Progress report or destruction report.....
Everything wired up
Ready to down load software

Issues
Spindle won't run ( I've had another one running previously )
Spindle is brand new ( black and red wires show continuity on multi meter)
Blew a fuse on spindle speed controller previously
Currently.
240v at input terminals
Orange led on board lit.
There is energy at output terminals, blew up multi meter........ probe in wrong hole on MM
Previous use of MM sends needle off the right off range, I had dc voltage set to highest setting.
Any advice or links gratefully accepted.
Options
Is it possible to measure output voltage with a MM
What are the settings on MM?

Any issues with using a laptop to run software. I have various older desktops if there is.
