Hey guys,

I decided that it was time to try and produce everything in house for mine and my fathers business.
To start with a plasma cnc cutter would definatly be most welcome, but the prices that these things sell at arnt really in our budget, so this is where the DIY bit comes in.

Ive had a chat with a couple of the guys on here and i have to say im impressed by there support and information that they handed over. So thank you guys!

Ive decided that i like the look and simplicity of the Precision Plasma http://www.precisionplasmallc.com/My_Homepage_Files/Page4.html

some help on how the Y axis work would be good as the pictures dont show a great deal.

Does anyone know where i can get or have made the gear reduction for rack and pinion?

The list of materials i have are;
2 x Nema 23
1 x Nema 34
1 x 1500mm 20mm ballscrew with 20mm pitch
1 x 1500mm 20mm ballscrew with 20mm pitch
1 x nema 34 mount with bearings
2 x nema 23 mounts and bearings
4 x Supported round rail and bearings
2 x unsupported round rail and bearings
1 x Uniport
2 x PS407 power supplies
3 x PM542 microstepping drivers

Please ignore the picture below as this is off the old thread and i dont know how to remove it

I want to do the cutter in a Alu T-Slot exrusion is there a certain kind to use or are they all the same? reason i ask, ive looked at a couple suppliers and there either grading them in numbers or by weight.

Hi Derick

I like the avitar  someone you know?

Anyway I digress, Ali extrusion is sold by its size and weight. the light is like an aero and is full of air so not much use (display boards only) that leaves standad or heavy. what you need will depend on the loads or cost. basically pick the heaviest of the section size for the same cross section required.

Also each t slot reduces its strength so if you only need 1 slot for mounting then only buy the 1 slot version. might seem trivial but will make a difference
