I finished my last router just before Christmas and I enjoyed the challenge of building it so much that I have already started on my next one.

The design will be similar to my first machine http://www.mycncuk.com/forums/showthread.php?1541-My-steel-framed-router

It will be larger, with a cutting area of approx 1.55m x 1.1m and it will have an adjustable bed so that it can accommodate large and small workpieces and also so I can add a 4th axis at a later date. Z travel will be 250mm.

Here are a few sketches of the design.

X axis will be driven by two 25mm ballscrews, Y will be driven by a 20mm ballscrew and the Z by a 16mm ballscrew.

I ordered the rails, bearings and ballscrews from ebay and they arrived yesterday

I ordered the steel for the frame and gantry today. Frame and legs are 100 x 100 x 5 box section and the gantry is 100 x 60 rectangular section. All I need now to get started is enough room in my garage to build it.

If anyone wants to look at the design in more detail, the sketchup file can be found here http://www.homdens.co.uk/router/new%20router.skp

I look forward to any comments or criticisms.

Looking real good Pavlo, I read your previous build info numerous times, it certainly enthused me to get started. It has consumed most of my non wokring life..

Good luck with this one, i'll be watching with great interest.
