Hi,
My name is John and I live in Suffolk.
I thought I would introduce myself as a new member to this Forum.

I have just started the conversion of my X3 Mill and know that I will have lots of questions along the way.

I am an electronics design engineer working in Cambridge.
I have always loved building anything that moves and in the past have built 3 cars and a plane (my main love in life is flying).

I have very little machining skills and that is why I have bought my Mill, so I can learn.
I look forward to getting involved and becoming an active member here.

All the best
John

The X3 is a good starting point and is quite easy to convert.
I did an X3 super last year and while it is all done, not managed to use it yet.

No excuse for me not getting it working then Gary as all the motors and drivers are coming from youlol.

The motors you picked are a good choice.
My Z axis has a slightly smaller motor, but the 118 is a good motor.
Also now i know what you are doing the 752 will work fine on the Z axis.
Are you getting the ballscrew kit from CNC Fusion in the states? if so it is good.
Also you will see some pins that need to be removed, they are tapered so they will only come out one way, i learnt that the hard way lol.

Yes I am using CNC Fusion parts, I have been talking to Michael at CNC Fusion for the last few weeks and he has been very helpful, just waiting for the parts to arrive.
Are the pins you are talking about on the gears at the bottom of the Z drive lead screws?
If so I have seen a few posts on his forum moaning abut not being able to get them out.

The pins are in a number of places and are used to accurately line parts up.
Once you strip it all down, you will see what i mean.
Also you will need some tin snips to trim the metal back to fit the motor.
Yes the Z axis was a pain in the ass.
Also the Z is heavy so i had it on its side when working on it.

Thanks for the advice Gary.
