I have a ER11 Collet 1pc & adapter ( for ф3.175 to ф6 ). I have a the 3.15 and ordered a 6 mm. I want to raise letters from both wood and soft metals ( metals later). The idea is to laminate some nice woods either dark and light or light and dark, then using the CNC, mill off the wood to create raised lettering. The letters will be no more than 3- 4 mm high and I’ll use a font (after experimentation) that’s not to intricate. There won’t be much wastage; say the wood is 3 inch wide, the letters will run up to say 1/8” or less the edge of either side of the width. What I’m hoping to achieve is the letters standing out proud on the piece. The pieces will be small, no more than 300 mm length and about 2 – 2 ½ inch wide. The thickness will be less than ¾ “over all. The spindle will go up to 4000 mm/min.

So what tools would you recommend, I want a flat side to the letters but I also want as much finishing as possible, speed of production will be looked at later , for now I want the best finish I can, or the least amount of manual finishing afterwards.

What travel speed / Spindle speed and cut amount do you recommend for hard wood?

When I have the technique down I then want to make some inverse copies for moulds, but I’ll ask about that later

Thanks as usual
