Hi All
I'm about to change the Y-axis on my Sieg X1 mill that I cnc'd, I want to put the stepper motor on the rear of the column as per the KX1.
I know have the problem that with the stepper at the rear the ball screw will need protecting from chips etc, so I wondered if any member has a KX1 could they say how the Y-axis ball screw is protected from chips!
I can see that the z-axis is protected by a bellows arrangement.
Thanks

KX1 has rear bellows as well.

This is a bare base off a KX1

Thanks for that John, I will have to rethink my design.

John,
One thing that puzzles me is why is the back plate the stepper attaches to so thick.
All the thrust etc must be taken by the angle bracket that the screw attaches to.

the thickness of the metal dosn't look that thick! its just a box. I guess the box shape is to make it rigid and more importantly give space for the motor coupling?
