Hi guys , Iím downsizing my living space from a three bedroom house to a one bedroom flat in Preston. My daughter has moved out now and although her pet corn snake has reappeared after a 6 months absence somewhere under the floor boards Iím finding it hard to justify heating cost and rates on such a big house. Anyway thereís nowhere for my equipment at the new place, even though I have sold off the table saw , band saw and router table.
Anyway itís not a big deal, but I was wondering if any members on here in Preston have any spare workshop space for my 3 pieces of equipment, Small bench top CNC, Small Cross cut and hobby thicknesser. Iím going to do a new start-up business using the PR1 grants so there will be money for rental. Like I said itís not a big deal I can put it in storage for a while as I donít want to sell my CNC because I love it.

Hi Fivetide, like you I downsized (2 years ago) and whilst I do miss some of my larger machines, on balance it was the best move I have made for years. I have recently purchased a large router again (in partnership with a friend) and the machine is now installed in his unit (not yet working), so the idea of sharing workspace is in my opinion quite a good idea if you are lucky enough to find the right conditions. As you know I am nowhere near Preston, so can be of no help, but I would like to wish you the best of luCK with your new business venture. G.

Best of luck with the move David although personally I think your making a mistake. If you can afford to pay the upkeep on the house then I would keep it especially if you are looking to start a business. Not through choice but I now live in a tiny little flat & hate it almost with a passion lol. No room for anything at all & not enough space to do any work at all even if I want to.
One of the reasons I have the industrial unit is so I can keep some of my own personal stuff there, not work related stuff but things like fishing tackle which I simply don't have room for in the flat.
Having the unit is great but there are times when I would like to be able to do a little bit of work without having to go up there but that just wouldn't work because the flat is to small. Other thing is the noise other people in the block make which you have no control over.

Agreed Martin on all your points, I will have to do a few contracts to fill the coffers up. But I'm also happy to move to this flat, its actually as my daughter said " A tree house " as I’m actually over the rear access gate and both ends have houses , it’s sort of like a gated community inward facing square. And each end is where the next doors stair case is. It’s also a lot less overheads and I’m back in the City where I can out with my mates and get back to socialising. I only really moved out of the City when my ex-wife didn’t want my daughter living with her anymore and I had to be near her school, now she has big girl shoes, she moved in with her boyfriend I’m going back to where I’m happy lol  If I can sort some workspace out that would be icing on the cake. I could throw a shed up at my parent house but it’s too far away to make it practical.
