I would be interested in views and experiences of quick change ER11 collets systems, if such as thing exists, either home made or hobby level purchases.

It's not a big deal at the moment swapping cutters as I tend to use the same one throughout, and if I do need to swap I've purchasing a few collet nuts and fitted various sized collets ready to go. This saves having to snap the collet out of the nut, but I still can't get away from the fact that I need to use two spanners to do the swap.

I'm not in the market for a full ATC, but had been wondering lately about methods to make this easier. I've read about 'magic collets' and similar systems which have a slide ring which is withdrawn to allow tool changes, but these seem to be for mills using R8, MT etc not integrated spindles (I have the 1.5kW chinese water cooled spindle).

I'd considered making a sliding 13mm spanner jaw arrangement, attached to the Z-axis, on an over-centre spring (so it did not engage during operation!) to engage with the flats on the spindle whilst I undid the 17mm collet nut. My Bosch router has a spindle lock similar to this.

Anyone seen, designed, or considered anything along these lines?

Something along the lines of my spindle lock mechanism here (http://www.mycncuk.com/forums/routers-spindles-controllers/4944-spindle-lock-mechanism-2-2kw-china-spindle.html)?

The plan ultimately is to use it with this part...

You can guess the rest.

Missed that post first time round so thank you for that Jonathan! Yes, something like that.

I guess you could replace the servo tester potentiometer with on/off push buttons which create equivalent resistance to the pot in the extreme positions?

Lots of interlock and failsafe things to consider, and still got to finish my new machine, but that has given me a few possible ideas on tool changing.
