View Full Version : Plastics for machining?

Hi Guys,
.
I have a part I want to make, which has 3D machining on the outside surfaces, but has a 45mm deep pocket on the inside (it doesn't go all the way through, so can't double side the machining).
.
I'm thinking to myself that I'm not going to be able to machine the deep pocket using aluminium (on my CNC router at least), and whilst I could probably do it on my lathe/mill, I also have the option of making the part in some kind of plastic.
.
So question is, what "high strength" plastics are out there that machine well? By high strength I mean resistance to shock and bending forces causing fracturing e.g. ABS.
.
Of course I could go and get a 3D printer maybe, but CNC funds are a little short atm.
.
Cheers
.
