Building new machine. Aluminum square tubing and plate.
28"x39". Nema 23 stepper motors from china. 16 mm linear rails and bearings. 1605 ball screws. good pointers on gantry needed. So far thinking of using 1/2 plate for Z.
going to fill all tubing with expandable foam, to dampen vibrations. I hope.

It would be nice if you could rotate the picture. Foam is no use for dampening it is not dense enough dried silica sand would be better. Make sure you get low inductance motors and 1/2" plate will bend like hell.
What do you want to use the router for because as it is, it just might be able to cut foam. ..Clive

I have cut cherry, hickory, maple, oak, plastic, and aluminum with my bigger cnc router. Should able to do same. Large cnc uses porter cable 1 1/2 horse router. One day both will get spindles. For now I use carbide end mills and router bits. They seem to do well. Unless I cut to deep on each pass.
