Hey guys,

I normally have a good friend of mine building my control boxes so ive never had the chance to see how its done. my question is to you good guys how the hell do i wire these things up, or more importantly can you explain the diagram for me?

Could someone please explain the attached image please so i can try crack this once and for all ..

Driver : PM452
Motor : Plantry gearbox with CNC4you - 60BYGH301B (http://cnc4you.co.uk/resources/60BYGH301B.PDF)

Please guys before you sit back in your chair and snigger about my question please consider we were all here at one point - maybe some of us more clued up than others :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

Hey d-man, those curly bits are the windings of the stepper motor. So from your pic you would join the YEL and BLU together and the ORG and BRN. Then run the remaining 4 to your stepper driver.
I'm sure someone who has a clue what they are talking about will be along shortly with better info so best you wait for them!

Ah that does make sense! cheers pal!

however my current setup runs 4 pins and this one will work out as 6, or are you saying that the joined wires dont go to anything which would result in 4 pins :)

Are you sure you want to use that way to connect the motor ? that's a series connection, most would recommend the parallel connection.

A+ Red
A- Black
B+ White
B- Green

Yellow & Blue, connected together but going nowhere, just insulate once joined.
Orange & Brown, connected together but going nowhere, just insulate once joined.

Well it was just to try get my head around it Eddie, then i looked at the parallel connection and started to smell smoke (From my brain!) Parallel connection here http://prntscr.com/4wyek3

Cheers for that Eddie appreciate it

Ok so, going for the parallel connection am i right in saying...

A+ - Red/Blue
A- - Yellow/Black

B+ - White/Brown
B- - Orange/Brown

:dejection:

My head hurts this early

Parallel connections

A+ Red & Blue joined together
A- Yellow & Black joined together
B+ White & Brown joined together
B- Orange & Green joined together

Edit: Ha ha you just beat me to it but you got B- wrong (typing too fast likely)

Crap ran into another stickler...

Im using the MSD542 drivers with the Nema 23 SY60

Motor diagram looks like this...
http://www.mycncuk.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=13648&stc=1

However the Driver datasheed does not give colour codes http://www.motioncontrolproducts.com/pdfs/msd542-microstepping-driver.pdf

I have the wires joined, its just getting the 4 coupled wires into the A+ A- & B+ B- if you know what i mean.. how do you determine what double wire is for where

A+ yellow/white & red
A- yellow & red/white
B+ green/white & black
B- green & black/white

see diagram on page 7 for parallel 8 wire connection

cheers does it matter if its not a Leadshine?

No, it was just a diagram I knew about, it's the motor drawing that matters.

OK guys another one im needing help with... i have another SY60STH86/3008BF - however the wire colours are different but on zapps website datasheet

The wires on my motor are as follows

red
blue
black
green
blue/white
black/white
red/white
green/white

sure this is just done to confuse the hell out of me haha

OK so maybe not so bad as i thought.. only the Blue & Blue/White is different. will call this the "Yellow" wire :)

So is this correct:

A+ yellow/white & yellow (but its blue!)
A- Red/White & Red
B+ Green/White & Green
B- Black/White & Black

Using the standard diagram;

13681

For any colour scheme with parallel connections use this; (I've just used -A etc. to represent A with a bar on top (not A))

A+ (A to -C )
A- (-A to C )
B+ (B to -D)
B- (-B to D)

Nice one buddy thanks

Im really struggling to get this around my head, i think i have read it so many times i have confused myself (i need to swap from series to parallel as i didn't realise first time round)

which pairs do i join to each other and which pairs to i wire to the terminals?

many thanks

Using the diagram above

Parallel

A+ (Yellow/White to Red)
A- (Yellow to Red/White)
B+ (Green/White to Black)
B- (Green to Black/White)

Series

A+ (Yellow/White)
A- (Red/White)
B+ (Green/White)
B- (Black/White)

(Yellow to Red) not connected to any terminal, just connect together and insulate.
(Green to Black)not connected to any terminal, just connect together and insulate.

Ok so when in parallel you pair the 8 wires (4pairs)accordingly and then they would go strait to the terminals on the driver were as in series you just have 4 of them paired (2pairs) and the other 4 go to the driver?
Many thanks

Yes that's right

Many thanks indeed not sure why I got so confused I have attached a picture of it hopefully done correctly

The colours look to be in the right places, just can't make out the labels.
Where you have that earth wire showing it's good practice to cover it with black tape or a piece of black sleeving just so anyone else would know it's being used as a live conductor and not an earth wire.

cheers thats great i have done the other end of the earth cable but will put some that end as well thanks for your patience.
