Here are the details of Astrosyn MY103H702 stepper motors.
They are about £35 +£12 P&P for 4 motors from Astrosyn Excess on eBay.
Im posting this because I just got an email from Astrosyn replying to my request for a torque/speed curve, apparently they were custom models that arent on their website. They are nearly identical to the L702 except that the windings are different and have more torque.
Outline data is in the image and the full datasheet is attached.
The torque curve attached is for the L702 which has pretty nearly identical mechanical characteristics but less torque.
It seems reasonable to just lift the curve a bit to compensate. Does anyone know if thats a bad assumption to make?
Frame size is NEMA 23, square frame 55mm deep.

I know what you mean, hopefully it only needs doing once. They are selling loads on eBay and torque speed curves arent on the net anywhere, so I put all I knew about them in one place.
I think Irving has some too.
I know they're pretty feeble but they'll get me going albeit slowly.

Yes those are the same ones and I have the same curve. Was planning to actually measure the torque using the technique outlined http://www.mycncuk.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2647&postcount=2

I have also brought 4 of thease stepper motors from eBay.

I don't yet have a finished CNC unit to use the stepper motors on, but as my unit is only going to have a 300x300mm working area I think they should be ok.

I am still messing about with the best way to drive the stepper motors.

I have been using the Tom McGuire DIY stepper driver found on the instructables.com, and a LM317HVT to limited the current to 1amp, running on a 37volt PSU.

Are you happy with them? (do you get decent speeds before they stall)

I built my CNC using some old stepper from old dot matrix printers...they're doing the job, but the speeds are a little slow! Steppers will most likely be the first thing I upgrade & I had my eye on those Astrosyns myself.

Re drives...I pushed the boat out & rather than make one, I imported a drive from the States - it's one of these .... http://www.easy-cnc.com/3axisdriver.html - I'm very happy with it (think it cost me about £85 delivered as he had a deal on Ebay at the time)

I have no idea... they've not made it out of the box they came in yet, except to measure up the mountings, then the project was stalled by sadly having to pay for, and project manage, a new kitchen and bathroom, while working 12h days for my day job as well - none of which involve CNC or any of my other hobbies...
