What issues have you got ?

I have a Redsail m500 laser. The laser fires and seems to work fine although the microswitches on the bed don't work - i'm presuming this is a software issue as i've had the cables tested. The software i've been sent was lasermate/laserworks but the USB drivers say they load but don't. I've read that Redsails use Easycut; hence i'm thinking its the wrong software. The USB driver in any case is wrong; appears to not load and doesn't show in drivers. Also the software doesn't load as it asks to be connected to the machine and although it is says 'communication failure'. My laptoopo recognises the hardware; states no driver installed.
I've tested other things out with a friend who also seems to think its software based.
Does anyone know any more??7
Help would be great thanks.

I assume you looked here ? http://www.hflaser.com/download.html

calida

Yes i have looked at that but most of the downloads are just specifications; the USB driver downloads are 7z files which i can't open (is there something i need to do to load these??)

Yes, unzip them with this; http://www.7-zip.org/

The pc software/drivers will be quite specific to the board running inside the laser cutter. Where did you buy the laser?

Can you upload files to the laser from a usb memory stick?

calida
23-02-2015, 09:55 PM
it doesn't let me upload from USB stick. I've had it looked over by someone more knowledgable than me, seems to be just software issues....i've been sent laserworks/lasermate and it doesn't load right. I'm using windows 8.1.

Can you move the head around with the arrow keys.

calida

Yeah and the laser fires; everything has been tested it just doesn't talk to my computer.

EddyCurrent

So have you unzipped the drivers and installed them now ?

I had endless problems with usb controller with my laser in the end I used the network cable option and have had no further problems it also doesn't need a driver but your laser might not have the network option.

calida

I've downloaded both USB drivers and attempted installation; one says driver install failure and the other isn't a file which runs.

calida

How would i know if it had this option and what would i do to work it like this?

EddyCurrent

If you can see some files ending with .inf , right click on those and a dialogue will pop up, one option is 'install' so click that.

calida

They are all .lib .h .dll or .sys files

I'm not a fan of Win8, but you might have some option set that stops system files from displaying.

calida

Its 8.1 (not sure if that makes much difference) . Where would i be able to find out this info?
Thanks

No idea, I steer clear of Win8, but in Win7 it is Control Panel/Folder options under the view tab.

I don't seem to be able to find anything that works in control panel....i mean to load files i don't see?
Any other ideas...
Thanks in advance guys

. . .Any other ideas...
Thanks in advance guys

I don't think there are any other ideas, if you need the usb drivers installed then that's what you need. You'll have to spend some time getting to grips with Windows

Do you think is a windows 8.1 thing? Finally got to download those drivers, or at least it said done.... Still no change when I attempt to open laserworks. Says communication failure.

I meant that you should make sure that no files are hidden by the system.

From what I have seen of Win8, it is going away from the system engineers dream of something that is understandable, and can be patched if it don't do what you want.

When I was a programmer in the 60's, I could patch programs by stopping them, altering bytes in memory and then setting it running again. Up until Win98 I could do much the same. I started to lose interest with XP and now with Win7 I don't give a flying f**k. My attitude to Win8 is another step in the same direction.

Can you look in the system (Control Panel/System/Device Manager) to see that there are no Yellow question marks or other warnings ? If none then I would start to suspect a board failure in the laser machine. Windows should detect the device by Hardware Id and load the drivers off t'interweb if they are properly registered.

But I am starting to run out of ideas on this one.

Yeah it comes up in devices and then has the yellow warning. It searches but finds nothing online. It doesn't recognise the drivers I've downloaded. Seems real strange. The board I imagine is ok, as the lcd screen is fine and can fire and move etc. Redsail being fecking useless are... Well....useless

Looks as tho you still have the wrong drivers

Yup. Lol, no idea where to get the buggers. I've exhausted everything online. Let's hope redsail get back to me. Bloody thing is still under warranty but I don't have sales reciepts

Hi
I'd 1st try a different PC with XP on it. Beg/borrow etc !
Until you can get the driver properly loaded on something, you can't tel if the controller works or not.

Mine isn't redsail.
I us XP and network cable, so haven't tried the usb driver.
Mine is RDWorks, with an RD controller.

I haven't swapped my controller , and I believe some boards use different stepper motors

I know someone, who uses CNC drivers and Mach3 to control his laser, so it can be done, if all else fails :-)

Regards
Rich

I had a problem with drivers for a device and from the system screen in control panel I found the hardware_id associated with the device. I copied the value into my browser bar and did a search and it came up with a site for the drivers. I can't remember the exact details of where to find the hardware_id, but it was probably under driver details in the property tab for the yellow "?"-d device. The boards these machine use are often designed with a standard comms protocol.

Hi I've just got one of these redsail lasers and had nothing but problems. I've done a couple of test cuts. I drew a simple square and a circle and set power speed to cut. Each time the shapes are stretched circles are ovals and it only engraves no matter what setting I set they don't cut or produce the correct shape. Any ideas, seems like the machine is misinterpreting the software or something :-(

calida

I've not got mine cutting yet so I'll let you know when I get to that point. Your software works though?? Better than I have at the moment.

Progress is good though !

I've spent the last two days with "communication Error"
Re-install of software fixed it
Conclusion .. PC filled with MDF dust overheated and screwed up.
All cleaned out now with an air compressor ! and working again.

My Laser is on the LAN network, not USB BTW

This is the work bed sorry not the one before. In any case I'd like some help understanding them. Also i can't seem to set the origin and whatever numbers i out in for x and y it still overuns into the edges and i have to stop it. Microswitches don't seem to be registering.
