Hi

I have a EZRouter cnc machine which has a Porter Cable used as a motor spindle, cutting in the main, aluminium composite Six months ago it started sparking heavily and after a few weeks stopped working. We gave it into repair and was told it had been recoiled, however it has similarly started sparking again and sounds noticeably less noisier to my ear so I sense it may need to be looked at again very soon.

Can anyone recommend any repairers in London who could have a look at it as I'd have hoped and expected it to have suffered no problems for a while.

Hi, I used to have magnum router that used a porter cable router as a spindle. In my opinion you would be better to use a chinese water cooled spindle (more powerful and much quieter and should run for a long time) and not bother twith the porter cable. Good luck. G.

Agree with Geoff throw it away and get WC spindle you won't regret it.!

Thanks for the replies. I'm investigating getting a replacement WC router spindle but in the short term will most likely have to get the Porter Cable repaired as we a few jobs to get out imminently so any recommendations of even where best to search for an engineer would be great.

Regarding a replacement, I'd be grateful if you'd have a look at the pictures in this link and considering how the current router spindle is attached to the CNC router machine, let me know how I would go about attaching a new router spindle.

If you look on eBay there are many sellers who keep stock in Portsmouth, you can have a 2.2kw spindle and inverter within a few days for around £183 ish, I did. If you look at the specs you'll see the body diameter is 80mm so I guess you could use your existing spindle to make a couple of clamps that would fit the existing bolt holes, there's plenty of designs on here that people have made. I just bought a http://www.zappautomation.co.uk/mechanical-products/linear-bearings/sma-linear-bearing/sma50uu-linear-bearing-with-housing.html bearing housing, pressed the bearing out, slit down one side and used the mounting bolts to clamp the spindle body...http://www.mycncuk.com/threads/2148-Comments-sought-on-new-build-A-CNC-Router-for-RC-Gliders-and-Planes?p=67962#post67962
