So, looking at a Denford that uses BT30.

Is it possible to 'hold' an end mill with a shank diameter of 3mm? Do I get a specific collet that goes into the tool holder?

If so, can anyone link what I should be looking at?

https://www.maritool.com/BT30-Tool-Holders This side has a load of options, just unsure what I need to be looking at. Previously on my Kress I had a number of collets to make up my requirements from 1 - 12 mm endmills. Does it work the same?

There are many options with BT30 tool holders and you can hold just about any size tool with the correct holder.
For flexabilty you'll probably get ER collet holder and use it with standard ER collets so any size is tool in that ER range. For higher accurecy you'll buy dedicated tool holder sizes.

Great thanks. The gears I make need a 1mm endmill, held with 3mm shaft, hence the question.

I have er16 collet chucks on BT30 taper shanks I use in my Denford Novamill, and I have 3mm collets as well as 1/8" which is 3.2 mm. I have 2 full sets of metric collets from 1 to 10 mm and one set imperial 1/32 to 3/8 inch. Got chucks and collets on eBay mainly.

Ouch! Those Maritool prices are a bit steep!

I use ER12, 20mm straight shank tool holders in the ER32 20mm collet for any sub 5mm cutters on my old SCM 120. works fine.Geoff.
