View Full Version : Where are you buying spindles from - new build

Hi all,

I am in the process of designing a new build. Currently at the initial stages of deciding on parts/suppliers.
Hoping to have quite an accurate setup. Linear bearings, C3 ball screws, servos etc.

The one problem I am having right now is trying to find a decent spindle.
I am looking for a water cooled, BT40 (anyone suggest better alternatives?), with drawbar ability as looking to integrate ATC ability.

I want to run this off a servo as well, so not keen on the "fully integrated" ones.
The end aim is to mill a variety of materials from Al to stainless etc.

Can anyone make any suggestions of suppliers or where to source from, I am struggling to find one. Ideally I would rather stick to UK first, EU second, USA. I would like to avoid Asia sourced components as I have been burnt before.....

I would rather pay for quality and assurance, so please help!
Any help and guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Kamran

I've looked at the mechatron spindles, been quoted 3210 euros for a stand alone 2.2Kw BT20 pneumatic autochange spindle http://www.spindel-shop.de/Shop/index.php?cat=c34_ATC-Series-pneumatic-tool-change-spindles.html#34....sorely tempted......just need another 3000 euros :hysterical:

Laugh at it if you only want a toy to play with but if you want to work it hard pay up and shut up

Sorry to offend you Phill....was just joking, they're a top quality bit of kit and as and when I can justify one I'll get one.

Thank you Phill. I will get in touch with them and see if the damage is palatable.

Kamran.

So...I got in touch with Mechatron, they have a large selection of quality spindles. The one I was interested in, with ATC function + SK40, was quoted 7400 Euro ex VAT!
This didn't include an encoder either, which would have had to be a custom product.

So it is back to the drawing board, any other suggestions?
Maybe I need to start entertaining the idea of Asia sourced spindles, anyone have a tried and trusted supplier?

Thanks

OK some searching around, found some potential Asia suppliers. Thought I'd run it by you experienced ones....

Hi, I'm only beginner so sorry can't help much but just would like to ask about your build, are you aiming to build a vertical milling machine type or just a standard gantry build? it seems the specs of your machine are high which would be interesting to see first time here and I hope you are able to make it successfully, but also it is very expensive!

good luck
