Hi,

Does anyone know of a UK supplier of single point thread mills? I can't find anything via Google - Am I even calling these things by the right name?

Matt.

Hi, thread Mills generally have multiple thread forms along the the length as you can see in the cutwel link.
In the past I have used a indexable lathe screw cutting tool as a milling cutter, and this would effectively be a single point tool.

Generally... and then there are these:

And these from Germany http://www.sorotec.de/shop/Cutting-Tools/Thread-Mill--Thread-milling-cutter/ delivery is fairly quick

I think so, but I will check with Sorotec.

Yes the Sorotec thread mills are carbide.

Datron https://www.datron.de/de_de/cnc-fraeswerkzeuge/lieferprogramm/datron-gewindefraeser.html#_c4992 and paul horn https://www.phorn.de/produkte/fraesen/ both in Germany making thread mills as well. The horn parts are for larger diametres. If you have thread tools for a lathe, then you can use these parts on the mill as well, if you can clamp it in a collet.

I have a range of metric and imperial thread mills for specific jobs but for oddball OD and for internal stuff down to about 11mm I use one of these -

With a threading tip, there are a range of tips for other purposes -

If you can get a good deal on a thread mill that has a few teeth on a decent length shank you can grind it down to one fairly easily and cut a range of threads with it, keep in mind that if you move too far from the intended diameter for ID cutters the thread form can come out slightly off,
