Hey guys, I've got a spindle here which I would like to use on a new build, anyone recommend a decent cheap VFD to power it?

Normal 240V VFD won't work derek you need 380V input to get 380V output so basicly you need 3 phase input. Then the VFD is just speed controller.

There are 240V input 380V output VFD's but they are expensive and not very clean regards electrical noise. Also doubt you'll find one with 6.6Kw output.

Cheers Dean, yeah I have 3 phase in our unit so that's not a problem.

Do I really need to go to 6.6Kw? Would the 5.1 not be a better option?

So in terms of speed controllers, if I have 3 phase in the unit, does that mean I only need a speed controller?

Well kind of thou must be able to output 200hz to get full speed range. You'll be better with VFD but they won't be cheap and nearest will 5.5Kw.
