View Full Version : ArtCam and 6040 - Spindle raises super high between engraving each letter

Hello All,
Oober newb here (just an FYI)

We have been testing ArtCam for use with a 6040 CNC and are attempting to engrave on a 5mm thick plate of plexiglass.

We setup the tool path, ran Mach3 and loaded the gcode generated from ArtCam.

Once Mach3 executes the job, the spindle/bit raises all the way to the top, then lowers itself between each letter we are trying to engrave.
The travel time for the spindle going up and down is horrifying.

Basically, the spindle moves like this:
1: the spindle travels up as high as it can go on the z axis
2: The spindle lowers to the proper depth and engraves a single letter
3: Next, the spindle/bit travels all the way back up as high as it can go on the z axis
4: The spindle moves to the x/y position of the next letter to engrave
5: Then the spindle lowers back down to engrave the next letter.

Can someone possibly point me into the right direction, to solve the issue where the spindle raises to the top between engraving each letter?
We just need the bit to raise about 1 mm above the material between each letter, but right now, it is raising about 6-8 inches between each letter to engrave.

Somewhere will be a setting to move at clear plane or move at feed change plane. You want feed change plane and set it to 1mm.

Thanks John

I will look at that next :)
