I know I haven’t posted for a while, but my machine has been working fine, and life has been busy.
I have a developing problem, sometimes the machine jitters like it’s catching up with data, other times more commonly mach3 loses connection with cslabs and it stops mid cut. I am using stepper motors. The jittering occurs on large complex 3d NC programs, mach3 losing connection is random when it occurs.

I am using a windows xp laptop and connecting via an Ethernet cat 6 cable. At first I thought it was the Ethernet ports - poor connections. So I replaced my interfaces with the machine with screw down Ethernet connects made by Neutrik for microphones etc, also a new cable which is shielded ( last on was to) The problem hasn’t gone away.

I cannot seen to find much information online about setting to tweak. Most popular suggestion was to use cslabs interface instead of mach 3.
I have rebooted my laptop a few times and cleaned all the contacts in the data path, so I am now not sure what to look at next. I haven’t changed any of the settings from those Dean helped me put in 9 years ago.
Any tips to resolve this would be appreciated

Selling my Jazz JZR 9060 built by Dean complete with a steel fabricated stand also made by him which he fitted with castors

It was bought in 2022 and has only had light hobbyist use for a couple of years. Doing some engraving and 3D profiling and for the rest of the time it has been in storage. I moved from London to Dorking and had to build myself a new workshop. It is powered by a decent Dell laptop.

The XY travel is 960x715 and the Z about 150. It is in perfect working order and cuts square and accurately. I also have an Axminster Vortex dust extractor which is ducted to the machine to be sold separately. Other workshop equipment being sold are a Laguna Fusion 2 table saw and a Jet drum sander.

You are welcome to trial or test it in Dorking, Surrey as it is all up and running. Also I have some new and used tooling to be sold separately.

Access is good and a truck can be backed up my double garage doors with no lift out of the workshop. I can’t do much to help in the way of lifting (back issues) but I can arrange and cost transport within the UK if required. It is big and heavy and the truck will need a power lift.

I would like close to £3500 for it, that's a reduction of over £2000 over the new price. I can supply photos and we can discuss details by phone. Message me if you have any questions.

I have listed it on other platforms too.

Thanks for viewing,

Hi All,

Just wondered what style of coupling most people use/recommend when connecting their stepper motors directly to the ballscrew end?

Looking at those available on the BST Automation store of AliExpress, there seems to be 3 distinct types... Disc, Flexible and Jaw.
I'm wondering which is preferred to prevent any possible backlash?

Cheers

What are people using for cable to connect from the VFD to the Spindle?

I know they recommend shielded/screened cable but I've also read in some places that it should be double shielded/screened. I've also read that you need to ensure that the cable has been designed to support continuous flexing.

Is 1.5mm2 CY cable ok to use? Can it stand the constant flexing that it will be subject to, and will its single shielding/screening be enough.

Cheers

FOR SALE: Optimum BF46

Hello,

After a lot of thinking about how much I actually use it, I’ve decided to sell my CNC milling machine. I am keeping the wall-mounted control box and the servo motors to upgrade another machine, so this is up for grabs as a bare mechanical roller.

The machine is an Optimum BF46 converted to CNC by Mobasi in Germany. It’s fitted with a pneumatic powered drawbar and a one-shot oiler system, and I’ll include the custom splash guard I made for it (though it’s easily unbolted if you don't want it).

While the servo motors will be harvested, I am leaving all the custom machined belt reduction housings on the machine. This means you just need to bolt on your own motors and hook up a controller to get it cutting. The original factory head-mounted speed/direction box is still intact too, so you can run the spindle manually right away.

Because everything is still fully wired up right now, you are welcome to come and see it moving under power to verify the screws and ways are healthy before buying. Once you are happy, it takes me minutes to unbolt the servos.

Price is £1,250. The machine is located near Cambridge. I no longer have any heavy lifting gear or an engine cranes, so the buyer will need to handle 100% of the extraction, lifting, and transport (it's a heavy beast at around 480kg and sits in a fairly tight corner, so bring skates and a crane).

Drop me a PM if you're interested or want to arrange a viewing.

So I had a bearing starting to make a noise on the Y so rather than leave it, I got onto it and change both bearings.

But something isn't right as the new ones make a horrible grinding/squeeking noise from day one with zero hours use on them. I assumed I had put things back wrong.

Got some new bearings, took things to bits and replaced them again, making sure I didn't damage anything and putting everything back correctly.

But again from day one they are making the same horrible grinding/squeezing noise.

Is there some special method of installing bearings or ball screw support that im not aware of? Im clearly doing something wrong
