Nomal wood router bits are capable of routing patterns ie the straight flute bits and the same goes for aluminium ie straight flute end mills.
Its the software you use that sets the pattern.
Have a look at Trend or Rutlands Just about any router bit you can think of. If you are looking at true CNC router cutters, have a look at Routercutters UK but I hope you have deeeep pockets. :-)
As for Aluminium, standard milling cutters do the job nicely as you'd expect. It all depends on your spindle, if it a colleted type you can pretty much use any that will fit, if you are using a router then your choice is more limited as they need to have standard shank sizes or an adaptor to bring them up to your collet size.
George,
In this instance pattern making refers to making a template for either cutting around, or making a fibreglass mould from, or sand casting etc. See link:

They are likely to use a hard wood, and need to be accurate. Hence the question from ploughex. Also, end mills have a helix shape.
Ploughex,
I've machined 6mm aluminium using a TCT cutter in a cnc router and occasional WD40 spray. TCT cutter was cheap (~£4), did about 1 hours worth of cutting, and was bin fodder afterwards. But it made the one piece I needed.
