How much weight can 3.1NM motor lift? (as in Z axis)
Hi everyone, appreciate your assistance, if I want to figure out whats the max mass my stepper motor can control up or down for Z axis, what would be the right formula? assuming it can move it at reasonable speed 3m/min or so
motor for reference:

the axis uses 15teeth pulley on motor shaft and 20teeth on the ballscrew, 5mm pitch, the bigger pulley is around 3cm and the smaller is 2cm if I remember correctly

~ hundred kilos so don't worry about that. Though depends on what voltage drive your motors and acceleration desired.
But safely 30 kg should not be a problem

you can work it out easily actually. you know the torque you can get from the motor at a given speed (datasheet). You know the pitch of the ballscrews and their pitch diameter. With your gearing you can find out what the speed of rotation of the motor and the ballscrew need to be to get the speed you want. Then use the equation in page two of this: http://www.mech.utah.edu/~me7960/lec...lculations.pdf
select an efficiency of around 0.8 and you are good to go.
