    Hi all, is it safe to keep my control panel attached to the machine if I want to weld something onto it? there is a connection between the body/frame and ground/earth main point

    Ye probably but my drives and Control will still work. .

    You can use surge protector widely used in motor trade by body shop.
    I welded a lot of panels in the past never blown anything but do not take this as 100% safe method.
