i hope some clever spark can suggest anything i can do
I have a ELTE hp 5 tmpe04 spindle, it takes er 32 collets and nuts, the thread on the spindle has started to round off. apart from replacing the spindle which i have been quoted 2k for , is there anything i can do to fix this? the top half of the thread is fine, i did think of cutting the bad thread off but the er32 collet inside won't squeeze up high enough for the collet nut to get to the good thread. th spindle is fine apart from the thread part.

A week or so ago I took my motor in to a rewinder to have it serviced. They said that the shaft front needed some material sprayed on and the whole thing finished. Did not cost too much either.

In your case, you may be able to build up some weld on it and get it finishe machined and ground, inside. Can give you contacts of the guys I used if you want.

I would suggest sending a PM to John S (John Stevenson), a member of this forum. He repairs motor shafts and spindles of various sorts professionally. From what I have read on various forums, you cannot find a more capable person than him to deal with your problem.
