If that is real CF, be careful of the dust and fibres...

Messes up electronics, gunks up bearings, wears down rails and will do a number on your lungs. Even a vac with HEPA filter can let some through... best option really is to cut it underwater if you can.

  2. yeah its the real stuff as thats what I make, ive put the machine into an enclosure to contain the dist, making a better enclosure soon with a built in extraction system which should help

I used to do a bit of work with a company designing drones, we started prototyping CF frames in their lab using a vac boot and a hepa filter.

A few months after that, they had a hell of a time figuring out why their pcbs for flight controllers weren’t working as intended. Turns out the little carbon fibres had escaped and were wreaking havoc all over the lab.

They had a top to bottom clean and switched to cutting in a water tray so that the CF is submerged. No problems since.

Worth thinking about if you’re going to be doing a lot of it.

  4. I will look into that, but im mainly going to be machining resin billets

  5. Right chaps,

had a bit more time playing with the machine, ive got the motion speed set pretty low, feed rate set at 200. But it seems to be struggling with right angles and sharp points, it seems to add a small radius in these areas even though on the preview on the software there are clear points.

    Any ideas?

Sorry, missed that you was using Planet CNC software. Check this out http://forum.planet-cnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1271 (no promises!)

  10. managed to speed up the motors to 500, but changed the blend value to 0. Machining fine now, but a bit stop start on curves

  11. not much of an update but ive begun sourcing parts for the new extraction system and also the new enclosure. Ive tidied up my tool bench and moved it from the back wall against my booth which has free'd up some more space. Also got a big screen dedicated to the cnc stuff

I have made some small holes for the machine wires to drop neatly through the base of the enclosure so it is nice and neat, will be going to screwfix later to pick up some odds and sods for the extraction system. Im happy with the setup so far :-)
