I've been a D&T teacher decades and I got a router with about 70x90cm cutting bed. As a teacher we taught kids 3D CAD with prodesktop 8 which is ancient - but I want to design my own 3d clip art. Does anyone know of any free or reasonably priced software that they'd recommend? Especially if I can transfer my skills from the ProD8... I use V carve pro as the interface software.

So. Hello CNC world. I look forward to hearing from some of you!

    Welcome to the forum!

I'm afraid that questions in the New Member section can be totally overlooked, so it may well be worthwhile reposting your query/request in another bucket, possibly the software bucket. . . . . . .

The obvious suggestion - which might not be the correct one, is Fusion360. Not sure about the ProDesktop and any similarities, but F360 is pretty easy to pickup the basics (which is about where I am).

It's really not hard to find a lot of info on F360.

The easy way is to make your base clip art in Inkscape Or Adobe Illustrator as vectors then use fusion to extrude from your vectors.

    I would recommend this

I found this dvd useful to get my head round the interface, it's not a how to model tutorial it just breaks down the tools and how to use them so if you have no prior experience you would want additional help.

Youtube and autodesk has some excellent resources for getting started

If you didn't buy it from China the company you bought it from did ;)
