  1. well here goes my build. well the first lot of photos is the first attempt of a z axis spindle, it simply shock it's self to bits and was deafining.
I then started again from scratch using a 50mm diamiter linear shaft bored it out and turned a collet chuck on the end of the new spindle, it have now sat for a year or two:feedback:

Just a newbie question ... how much deflection do you get on the rails? that Z axis must weigh a fair chunk ...

    Hello cncezee.
What materials would you Machining with your machine?
    Kind regards ,
    Andre

  4. Hi tim yes the z weighs in at around 15Kg deflection is notisable but only when z plundges into work, as they will deflect upwards then settle.
    generally i am machining aluminium

  5. At last it is working and cutting,

unfortunatly the process of building blinds you to see the alternitives untill it is too late, then it turnes into a list of whishes!!!!.

Video link poor quality unfortunatly real bad handycam better vids to come

    Hi cncezee,
What made you build, rather than converting to cnc the mill you already have, nice website by the way!.
    Steve.

  7. Hi Steve, the reason is first when I started the build I had absolutely no idea how to do it, secondly I needed the mill to make some bits, thirdly .......that is my next project as I now have a machine that can make some bits when the mill is stripped down.
I am currently collecting bits for the mill conversion and hopefully will start in the next few months, I will start a build log for that project as well as post design information on website.
    Thanks for comments on website.
    Roger

  8. Right it was time to test my machine, so I made 4 bearing blocks out of 10mm BMS (bright mild steel) ran the speed at 120mm per minuet at 1mm depth of cut spindle runs at3750 rpm using a 6mm roughing end mill.

results were some pulling on rads with some vibration on top spindle bearing, but the worst fault is due to the rubber spindle drive which sets up vibration due to the increased load when tips of cutter strike the work pice.

but all in all a very sucessfull test
