As per the title, Id like to build up some stock of various size shim stock. The stuff I am finding is very expensive.

Why / when do you use steel vs copper?

    Any suggestions welcome.

    Thanks

What do you call very expensive?
I've used "Shim in a Tin" from my local bearing and seal suppliers in the past at around £12 per tin, and cheap feeler gauge sets when I needed a wide range of shim thicknesses, intended application might help folks suggest viable options based on size and availability,

You think that's too expensive? You're not a Model Engineer are you? :D
