Hi all, I have a Wadkin TC80 spindle intended for my next machine build, and beyond a marketing pamphlet I have no real information, i.e.:

    *air-cooled
    *7.5kW
    *0-20,000rpm
    *30 taper
    *hydraulic tool release

    Additional info I have ascertained:

    *green
    *heavy

I believe the machine it came off of was an Olympus.

It has a threaded hole in the front that did not have a fitting or bolt in (just taped over) which has me wondering if it's meant to have a continuous lube feed or forced air cooling. This was the standard spindle Wadkin offered at that time and not a fancier higher load/higher precision option. The spindle seems in good condition, so I don't really want to take it apart! Maintenance requirements would be great to know. Any ideas?

Mentions your head being cooled by an electric fan, I didn't read past that.
You think that's too expensive? You're not a Model Engineer are you? :D

That's ace - hadn't found that doc. I'll settle in and read it properly (especially since it isn't searchable), but I see on p24 it says the TC (100, not 80) is greased for life, and doesn't mention an air supply for cooling like the LC head :)

e: ah, p30, the motor is cooled by an electric fan. I have the motor, and it's an utter monster. Not going to be used on this particular machine!

Hmm, p94, 'compressor to give .56m^3 (5.3 cubic feet) of free air per minute at 5.3 bar. They've messed up the calc though, .56m^3 is 19.8 cubic feet. I guess it would be the higher throughput based on the similar power spindle options, might be time for a bigger compressor =/

I think the open port is an air input - blowing into it I found what appears to be a single vent (open hole with no features - circled red in picture). I've fitted an 1/8" BSP air fitting.
