I’ve got a very bad experience with that company from Jinan city. In May 2021 we’ve agreed on a contract for a router with delivery to Warsaw. They prepared an order on Alibaba for me which I confirmed and shortly I paid them an initial payment of 1320 USD. After about three weeks they announced to me, the router is ready but I’ll have to pay them more - 380USD because, they said the total cost now was higher than they predicted. I didn’t agree with them. The router became too expensive for me. I wanted them to give me back my money. They said: no way. They put me new terms, now outside of Alibaba. They said: ” I donot want to debate with you, there are 3 ways to solve it: 1. Agree to the shipping cost increase +US$380. 2. Find a shipping agent yourself, do FOB Qingdao term, we will only charge the FOB machine cost(US$2720), 3. If you want to return the money, 50% in advance payment will be return.”
It’s a pure blackmail. Now they keep my money and they laugh at me. They refused to realize our contract and advised to me to take legal action in China.
After they behave like that it seems to me there's no factory. They are only Ms. Jiao Jiao and salesgirl and they sell dreams.
They catch clients and they are sweet until our first payment. After that, they put their own strict terms.

I think you are being a bit harsh.I say this because three weeks ago I was talking to a man who buys some machinery from China for sale in Europe and he described the huge increase in shipping costs in recent months.It is a problem that has been added to by the dozens of container ships waiting to discharge their loads at several ports around the world.This has led to a shortage of shipping capacity and the rates have escalated to the point where it is costing 8-10 times as much to get a container to Europe.The suggestion they gave for you to find your own shipping agent would have very quickly proved the point.I suspect that if you looked closely at the details of your initial contract there would have been a clause exempting the maker from changes in the cost of items outside their control.What proportion of the price of a complete machine would the additional $380 represent?

I think they ought to predict the cost of the shipping. It's a company. Not a nursery school.
They did that mistake and now I have to pay more. Besides, the router got too expensive for me.
I can buy a similar one in Poland.

I'm not defending the company here but that's impossible in normal times but in these exceptional Covid times with the whole world thrown upside down, it's even more impossible.

I too import from china and have seen 600% increases in freight, on my last order the cost of freight tripled in the 28days it took for the order to be completed. I know other importers who have machines ready in China that were ordered before things went crazy and are paying warehouse costs waiting for the shipping prices to lower because it's cheaper than bringing them over. The world's gone bonkers.

I hold no brief for this or any other router building company,but their business is building machines and not predicting cost trends in other industries.I can't actually think of any business that would depart from their specialist operation to do so.If you want their product they will tell you the cost of that when it is ready to leave the factory and it seems that they gave the choice of organising your own alternative shipping.I don't believe they have been unreasonable given that the annoying increase in cost won't give them any financial benefit.This article illustrates what has happened with container shipping costs and shows that they may be coming down https://splash247.com/container-spot...-in-free-fall/ .

I received a shipping quote last week, and I had to have a sit down.

The quote for shipping alone, was the same as what I paid in total including import duty and VAT to ship a lathe across last year. And this was a potential shipment half the volume, and only a single box, unlike the lathe which was 5 boxes and weight 4 times as much.

I knew prices had gone up, but not that much. I phoned up somebody I know who deals with international trading, they said shipping costs have probably quadrupled since I shipped the lathe. Their best guess estimate for when the industry thinks prices will drop, will be summer next year. They suspect as soon as China's exports are being noticeably hurt by shipping costs, the Chinese government will do something, because with current shipping costs, they're not that competitive.

They said this in April and still, nothing has changed, if anything it's got worse and it's not going to get better any time soon. The problem is that shippers have been holding off from shipping waiting for the prices to drop but this is actually keeping the prices high because eventually, they must send the shipments and because there is a shortage of boats they are fighting for space and driving up the costs.

To compound this the Suez canal incident is still causing problems because the government has blamed the shipping companies and made them pay the total costs who obviously are insured for this, however, in response, the insurance companies have driven up the premiums for going through the canal. The upshot is the boats are going the long way around which takes several weeks longer meaning the boats are not getting back to China fast enough to meet the demand so the prices are held high as people fight for available space.! . . . The whole job is FUBAR

Shipping has faced the perfect storm, and the Suez issue was the final straw, but prices have started to drop over the past month.

My contact suspects prices will drop a bit now the Christmas rush will be mostly past, then probably again after the Chinese new year, before balancing off in the summer, but that all depends on there being no more major issues. But as you say, there is a huge backlog of goods waiting to be shipped, which is what will keep prices up for a while.

The main driver up until a few months ago, was the major shipping lines who owned their ships, mothballed a lot of them. At one point there were hundreds sat off coasts doing nothing, as the owners figured it was better to have them sat doing nothing, than have prices drop and lose money waiting for ships to be loaded/unloaded at congested ports.
As I was told, shipping is just one big cartel.

I was aware of that. That's why I wanted to buy the router with shipping.
I didn't want to deal with shipping by myself.
I didn't know Chinese companies are not responsible for what they say or declare.
Now I mean Shandong Lintianzhiyuan CNC Equipment Co. Not all Chinese companies.
When they informed me that the cost of shipping increased I answered them at once. Give me back my money and for me is all right. I am not offended.
But they have a problem with it. They love my USD.
