New to CNC doing a research project on software tools

Hello everyone
I am new to CNC machining, looking to experiment with a few bits and bobs in aluminium.
I've got into CNC because I'm doing a research project looking at different software tools out there around cutting parameters and CAM programming, looking at the potential to semi-automate these steps.
