These forums look very interesting indeed :-)

I should perhaps explain that I only have a couple wood-working lathes (but have recently built a screw-cutting jig for one of them using 3/4" UNF threaded rod as the leadscrew), a pillar drill, donkey saw, bandsaw and the like. I would like a metal-working lathe but no dosh for that (or the tooling) at present. My partner & I are quite into making our own jigs/tools etc and would like to do more. A blacksmith friend down the road has recently been given an old milling machine that we will be helping her restore etc - currently it lacks a motor!

My only contact with anything even slightly like CNC is that many, many years ago I used to write machine code to drive early HP X-Y pen plotters in the days before PCs!
