Found this for mounting the chuck, that ain't too bad a price for the spindle shaft and its a 20mm bore hole.
Ebay has chucks that fit this back plate at a price of £45

Anders Wallin (from CNC Zone) built an upgraded mill spindle with one of those a while back. He's geared it at 3000rpm and 6000rpm for finishing work! His blog is well worth a read. I found a couple of posts where he discusses the build of the new spindle:

    Thanks for that,Tom

Gotta workout my CNC plans first but have purchased the Lathe chuck and spindle asI want to incorporate a lathe into the CNC build.

I was going to buy a Mini Lathe but thought it would be cheaper to buy the necessary components of a Lathe, the motor I already have which came off a cheap table saw, motor is induction type at 2500 rpm's and is very quietso thats a bonus. :-)

The bottom end of the spindle has holes in funny locations for some reason…
Lol,this is a quote fom Anders,,the reason it has funny hole locations is for chuck to be unbolted fom the front ie through holes in the chuck as opposed to unbolting from the back of the spindle plate. :-)

Orderedthe spindle and chuck yesterday afternoon and they arrived half hour ago...now thats what I call speed delivery.

However that aside the spindle is not new as stated on the website, its caked in metal filings this looks like oil residue from keeping the spindle from rusting but it is metal filings.
The bore hole of the spindle is completly rusted inside...

stay tuned for a pic in a moment?

Spoke tothe guy on the phone, seems genuinly concerned and has offered to exchangeor refund...just hope he's not expecting me to fork out the return fund?

Thing is this could have easily been checked before dispatch ie it was only wrapped in waxproof brown paper, said it was the first complaint he'd had over the spindle...well he would say that wouldn't he. :-)

Damn, email just arrived seems the rest of the spindle stock he has is in the same condition and he doesn't have a replacement...arrrrgh that means no spindle to mount the chuck.
    What a bummer.
    :-(
