For the people that are interested in buying a laser for their CNC (add on)

    this has been recommended

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1206188519...ht_2977wt_1163

and here is a copy of the email sent to me

    hi
thank you for your interesting in our product.
if you only cut paper card, a 3.2w laser is ok. if you cut vinyl card less than 4mm, I recommend this one for you: 120618851945 or this one: 110757351582, 980nm get better spec than the 808nm one
hope my answer is helpful. if you have any question please feel free to let me know
    with best regards
    Merry

Why would you buy one of these over a 35 or 40W tube that is supplied as a spare for the desktop machines ?

Genuine query as I'm looking at maybe getting some form of laser for marking a job that may come up.

I have no idea as you could do so much more with 40W for less money (£280). That seems really expensive for only a 4W laser. I guess it's a bit easier to set up than the CO2 lasers.

I'd quite like one, but I don't tend to do much with plastics so I don't know how much I would use it.

  4. Shopping terms:
    ....
    ....
    > 1mw laser may be confiscated by UK, AU customs. Over 5mw are banned in some countries, please read your laws before place the order. We are not responsible for the customs hold or law violation.
    ??????????????????????

BTW What do you need to upgrade route?
    -laser tube
    -power supply
    -mirrors
    -focus lens
    -water pump for cooling
Is there something else I missed ?????????

  5. I got a 40W laser engraving machine from ebay.
    Cost me £129 plus Shipping.
I dont know how they can make them for that money, and it looks quite good.
Looking at using it for cutting acrylic, but may get a larger 100W machine as well

    Wiatroda,
adjustable mirror block for each mirror, adjustable lens holder for setting the centre hole of the nozzle to the beam path. Flight tubes to enclose the beam path. Safety glasses to suit the power and wavelength of the beam. Possibly a polycarbonate enclosure to surround the cutting head to absorb any stray or reflected beams.
You might want to enquire about the lifespan of the glassware. Our 3KW CO2 glassware is rated for 12000 hours but it costs loads. I dont think the cheap stuff will last very long.

  8. Thanks Ian
I think they mentioned 4000hrs, but I believe power output decrease constantly towards end of life span, so I assume at 3000hrs it can be 80% or less. I read on some forum european made 100w cuts better chinese 100W tube. I don't know how it's possible ,but that's what people said from experience.

4000 hours is really good for that cost. Even at the end of its lifespan 80% is still good and dropping the cutting speed should still give a good cut.

I bet as a hobbyist to reach 4000hrs can take ages.

Just wonder how to make laser to cut under mach3 with different power. laser power supply adjusts the power by PWM modulation of ttl signal.
So if I understand correctly, if I set up different spindle speeds for different paths there is a way to control laser power output. As I never controlled spindle speed under mach3 I have very vague idea about it.
