Somehow I've never seen one of these before, looks like a nifty piece of kit.

It has the slight inconvenience of mounting a tie bar, but as far as I can tell, no matter how skewed your mounting is, it can't fail to put you on the spindle rotation axis.

I'd buy one now if only it wasn't so blooming tall :whistling:

Hang on a bit, a shorter one coming to a store near to me anytime now, might even be cheaper as well.

    Robin,
My colonial .02 worth. I bought one several years ago and it worked great for its design purpose.
HOWEVER, I have now gotten into using a probe to do all my edge and center finding work and haven't used it in quite some time.

I modified one of these (hope the picture comes through):

by removing the battery and led and putting a probe wire thorough one of the holes. Then I use an appropriate probe command to find either an edge, top, or center of a hole

    PS: A lot cheaper also!

One of these looks like a goer for a probe mod? but i do like the idea of the gauge one for centering

    Hi Art

Colonials welcome, but I don't think I dare go back to the States, I had too much fun and got fat:heehee:

I just bought a probe but does that little ruby ball really sit on the axis of rotation? As soon as the weather warms up so I can get back in my workshop I shall find out :naughty:

    best

The dial does away with all concentricity issues. But I have a round column mill so the long body on the one I found would result in spindle overhang.

I like to keep everything nice and tight

A wiggler set! Just search rdg or chronos for wigglers, found a set for £5.40, just add a dial gauge, or one of those mag mount digitals (an essential engineering tool with a zillion uses). They are also easy to make, any bit of bar, end doesn't have to be ground special as long as it fits.
