Thread: TIG welding

  1. #1
We have a couple of arc welding irons up at the workshop but I never use them, I was thinking maybe I should take the gas cylinder back to BOC and save on the rental.

Then out of the blue my son thing decides to have a go with the TIG over his lunch hour. This pic is from day 2 and it isn't his best, he took that to show his mates.

I thought TIG was supposed to be difficult, or is it only difficult if you want to do thin?

This could open up all sorts of possibilities

Pretty much, regardless of the welding method.
Try welding some 0.8mm sheet, or thinner if you have any.

Tig is relatively easy on steel so long as the tungsten is sharp, alli is a bit harder as you have to wait for a weld pool to begin but still relatively easy after practice. Very controlled tig welding, and rewarding to get nice runs :)
