Thread: Phlatprinter

Hello all. Our DIY CNC machine is called the Phlatprinter.

We haved been using our Phlatprinter for years. Recently, we released it to the public. We have received an overwhelming response. We started selling Kits in August 2008. It has been such a great adventure. We have learned so much from this experience.

Initially, we thought we would offer plans for the Phlatprinter if there was enough interest. Before our release date, we decided to have the parts for the Phlatprinter professionally cut which would save everyone a lot of time and effort. It would also ensure repeatability for everyone around the world who builds one. It was the best decision we could have made.

Now, we have 71 members who have purchased a Phlatprinter Kit. Most of them have theirs built and they are using it as intended, to cut sheets of foam. Since the release, the 71 members have helped us learn the possibilites that the Phlatprinter has to offer. By simply changing the bit, it is capable of cutting balsa, light plywood, plastics, etc.

We just thought we would share with you our DIY CNC machine. If you would like to build your own or are just interested in more information, you can visit www.phlatboyz.com or www.phlatforum.com

Thank you so much. We look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi,

What a brilliant little machine! Some of those aircraft designs are incredible (6ft long C17, wow!).

    Thanks for sharing.

    Regards, Jeff.

Thanks guys. We're also able to cut cardboard, balsa wood, poster board, and light plywood 1/16". It's really moving along. We just released the second machine, the Phlatprinter MKII. It's a lot faster (belt driven) and has more bells and whistles. We expect to be in production within the next couple of weeks.

Wow, the MK2 looks loads better. I think in carbon fiber it would look really nice would even add more to that Stealth look your going for :). Please do keep us posted !

Thanks Lee. It would be awesome to make it out of carbon fiber except for the price, of course. We could no longer price it as an entry level CNC machine :) We have done a live feed of the build over the weekend and are going to set up the live feed again for test cutting in the next few days. We will announce it over at the Phlatforum on the main page (once logged in). We look forward to seeing you guys there and hope you will be a part of it. It's a lot of fun.

    Thank you,
    Mark and Trish Carew
