threadmilling!!

Hi all, can anyone help? I need to thread mill a 1/2-14 npt thread but I'm unsure as to whether a normal helical interpolation would suffice and would it be better to feed up or down in the z axis? Or better yet, is there a g function that I could use on a fanuc 18m system? any advice or examples would be gracefully received
