    Hello all,

I've got two servo motors and now I'm trying to figure out what drives they need. The most confusing thing is their rated voltage, 330V and 175V. All the documentation I found about these motors have versions for 230, 400 or 480 volt.

The second question is about their planetary gears. Could I use them in CNC application with their 3 arcmin and 5 arcmin backlash?

    Documentation:

    First motor brochure: http://www.motiontech.com.au/wp-cont...ily-250712.pdf
    First motor manual: http://www.wiki-kollmorgen.eu/wiki/D...7/dbldbk_e.pdf

    First motor gear: http://www.sumitomodriveeurope.com/f...061130_web.pdf

    Second motor: http://www.acmengineering.it/eng/906.htm

    Second motor gear: http://www.siboni.it/Assets/Public/F...ta-eng-web.pdf

BEMF if you search on the internet is something like Back Electro Motive Force, not operating voltage.
What backlash is acceptable depends on your requirements.
Hopefully someone else is able to answer your other questions, failing that you will need to research drives and their use with motors and controllers,
    Regards,
    Nick

  3. The ACM motor will run on a 230V driver or 400V three phase driver, but you need to check if it has a resolver or encoder.
I know this motor quite well and a lot of them came with resolver.

    Thanks Nick and Gary!

I need to find out if they have resolvers or er encoders. Will I make any damage if I dismantle them to see what's inside? If they are fitted with resolvers, I think I will be able to replace them with encoders.

Regarding the planetary gears, I intend to build a rotary axis and/or a two axis (B/C) head for light wood working and foam. But I thing in either situation there is no backlash allowed. Or am I wrong? At the moment I do not have the money for Harmonic Drives...

  5. You can count the pins on the connector or use a 6mm spanner to remove the back plate to see if it is a resolver.
A resolver is a wire wound device so is obviously different to an encoder, so easy to identify.
If you need to change to an encoder get one with halls as well as the encoder signals so the driver can get commutation.
