Thread: G codes

  1. #1
    Hi All,
Just had a sudden thought (most painful) about G codes and the movement they perform.
If you issue a G01 x5 Y10 from x=0 and y=0 does the controller move the x axis half the speed of the y axis, as I think it should or am I being dumb!!

G01 should follow a straight line, so yes, the Y axis would travel at twice the speed of the X. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G-code#G01

You are right, another way to look at it is... Your spindle will arrive at X5 Y10 at the same time, so it will need to travel faster in Y than X.

Depends on the Parameter set up of the machine
IF the Parameter is turned on for straight line rapid that's what it will do
IF you want to go to the point Straight line -G01 X5.0 Y10.0 F500.0 and will always arrive at the point together
Goo X5.0 and Y10.0 depends on the above parameter setting
