    You have to see the electron micrograph to believe it. The gear keeps the insects back legs in synch when it jumps. This has to be the perfect gear form if you happen to be working in chitin...

    Fascinating article!

    I've known some womenfolk who I think may have evolved similar gears at the tops of their thighs, but it was evolution gone bad though, as the gears tended to seize quite often, resulting in them being locked together.
