I have 3 m542 steppers, 33v power supply and the following three steppers for my x,y,z axis; Vexta steppesr:
    X= PK 296-02AA (2 Phase 1.8° step, DC, 3A)
    Y: PK268-03A (2 Phase 1.8° step, DC, 3A)
    Z: PK268-03A (2 Phase 1.8° step, DC, 3A)

and a 5 axis breakout board like this one Click image for larger version.

What setting on the DIP switches should I be setting Click image for larger version.

Also what setting should I be setting in Mach3 in the motor tuning section.

The travel of the x axis is 80mm per revolution of the x stepper motor if this is required for setting calculations.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice. More info on my DIY build/retrofitting can be found here http://www.mycncuk.com/forums/diy-cn...html#post51435

I'm not an expert in this but for a start I would use these settings.

    sw1 - ON
    sw2 - ON
    sw3 - OFF
    sw4 - ON
    sw5 - ON
    sw6 - ON
    sw7 - OFF
    sw8 - ON

In Mach3 put the "steps per" at 20
keep the acceleration and velocity low for now.

I wouldn't use Eddy's settings. (Sorry Eddy no offence)

Motors are 3A so go to nearest lowest not higher. . .So 2.8A going higher can lead to hot motors.
    sw1-off
    sw2-off
    sw3-on

Currant mode is for when motors are at stand still so set to Half current mode and they won't get red hot.
    sw4-off

Micro stepping will depend on few factors like PC speed and parallel port speed etc so I'd start lower first. So 800 Micro steps.(1/4 stepping)
    sw5-on
    sw6-off
    sw7-on
    sw8-on
If your parallel port can stand the strain then having higher micro stepping gives smoother running motors and lessens chance for resonance.

Are you sure it's 80mm per revolution.? That's a large pitch and low resolution.!! . . . . If correct then use 10 in Steps per in Mach. (80mm/800Ms=10steps per/mm)
