This can be bench mounted but maybe bigger than you want.

I once made a jig to use a small oscillating bobbin sander, the workpiece was fed in on it's side. It was basically a hinged piece of plywood with a threaded rod adjustment so the gap between the drum and the plywood could be adjusted. Obviously the workpiece was then fed into the gap.

I also remember seeing someone build a machine like you mentioned using a hand held belt sander in a jig.

What about a small planer thicknesser?
Clarke do a few - Planer Thicknessers

I think you'd probably need to build your own if you want a sanding equivalent without having to import.

Yeah thanks for the link but it is a bit to big for waht I need :)

Yeas M_C i was thinking about maybe making one , they dont look to complicated tbh, I have a planer and thicknesser it works well, but I have an idea for something and I want to sand flat some small thin wood in an ali case. It was only an idea if someone had seen somthing like it on the UK for sale.

And I suppose hand sanding the item upside down on a flat surface is no good ?

I'm not that good lol ! and its more to get some hard woods down to 1.5 mm thickness evenly as well, my thicknesser can do a good job to about 4 maybe 3 mm somthing like this but in woods that are hard to find in this thinkness cherry , ebony etc and yes I have done a fair bit of with veneers but on a larger scale , small stuff deserves sthe soild stuff :)

For thin veneers I use a bandsaw to resaw a thicker piece of timber then sand flat.

There's also these rather thicker veneers if any use
