In an effort to squeeze it all into the minimal space

in a nice box £27 wortyh with vents and that, Its all a bit too cramped?
i robbed the power socket from a printer, it had little magnets on it - do I leave these on or remove them?

the power in to the main switch, do I just switch the live, or the neutral too?

I hope you didnt use the hammer to get it all in. I would say its way too cramped. The pcb is mounted above the vents for the psu. You really dont want to obstruct the cooling system. I would have gone for something about twice that size.
Are you sure the little magnets are not ferrite beads? If they are leave them there. Switching both live conductors is a good idea. I would recommend you do it.
